Our Engagement Story.

Once again, we sent off to Bishop, California. A special place for us. It was the first place we had ever gone snow camping, leading us to unforgettable memories. Our first time getting stuck in the snow, but we also figured it out with just the two of us. Our dog, Bishop, is also named after this special place because of all our memories and moments in this great little town. This was a long-awaited trip back to the Sierras. It has been a while since we have been in the Sierra Mountains. We set off on December 27th. It was a rainy day, but we were escaping the rainy Southern California weather for slightly better cold weather in the mountains. As we headed down the 395, like many times before, there were many more people than anticipated because of New Year’s weekend. Mammoth was also expecting a lot of snow.

As we approached Bishop, we had to make a pit stop at our favorite coffee shop, Looney Bean Coffee. The comfort of pulling up to one of our favorite coffee places is a beautiful feeling. The Sierra Mountains have a sense of feeling like home. We also have our usual food and drink items that we get when we are at Looney Bean too, so it feels even more like home. Once Brekkie was done, we searched for a camp spot. However, the forecast said it wasn’t supposed to rain until late that evening, and it had been raining all day.  We ended up finding a good camp spot with mountains surrounding us. At this point, it was only a light rain; however, I did not bring a rain jacket and only had my puffy jacket, which was, in fact, not waterproof. Trying to keep things dry and clean, especially with a dog, was challenging. The evening was cut pretty early. We attempted to make dinner, but the propane didn’t want to work with the rain and kept freezing, so our dinner plans weren’t as warm as we had hoped, but we made it work. Bless Charlie, who ended up cleaning up dinner because I was trying to stay warm from getting wet from the rain. We then got cozy up inside the tent. It was roughly 5:30 pm at this point. Thankfully Charlie had downloaded some movies to watch; however, I took a nice pre-bedtime nap. It was around 8 pm when the rain had stopped, and I had gotten up and out to take Bishop to the bathroom. It was warmer than expected outside, and we were glad the rain had let up. As we all headed to bed for real, we awoke shortly after that to gusts of wind slapping the tent and shaking the truck. It was as if we were in a hurricane or about to get swept up in a tornado. The wind went on practically the entire night. It finally became morning, and we were taken aback by what the outside looked like. The skies had opened up, the wind and rain had vanished, and the mountain was saying good morning. We have never seen something so spectacular. It was the most gorgeous view. The snow-capped mountains that surrounded us with the sun warming the campsite. It was perfect.

After rolling out of bed after the longest night, we went on a short walk around the camp and then returned to make pancakes. It is a necessity while camping to make pancakes. Once the fluffy cakes had been eaten, Charlie asked if we should take a photo in front of the snowy mountains. He sets up his GoPro to get the mountains in the background. After posing for our beautiful photo in front of some amazing mountains, Charlie said some thoughtful, kind, genuine words, hugged me with a racing heart, got down on one knee, and asked if I would marry him. I said yes in the perfect setting, with the person I love and Bishop. The morning truly couldn’t have gone any more perfect. It will be another lifetime trip that carries so many memories and emotions. Once we took in the moment and the beauty, we prepared to head out to our next spot. On our way back to service, we called friends and family to share the wonderful news and celebrated with coffee! We then set out to our next spot on the other side of the road into the mountains. During this time, we drove some more to find a good spot, hoping there would be no wind that night. We ended up finding a great spot that was surrounded by pine trees and snowfall on the ground. We made our first campfire of the trip, made dinner, and just relaxed for the rest of the night. We ended the night after our nightly cleaning and getting ready for bed.

Future Mr & Mrs. Harrison

The following day we woke up to snow flurries falling from the sky and everything dusted with snow. There is something so peaceful with snow, especially when it's just you and nature. Everything is so quiet when there is snow. After a slow start to the morning, we ended up meeting a couple of friends from RiG’d to do some shooting of the truck. We drove through some of the most breathtaking canyons that day but couldn’t make it too far because the snow was too deep. It was fun to drive around and experience new places with great company. The night came, and we ended the evening with another roaring fire before heading home the next day. I don’t think any trip will honestly top this one. Bishop already had a special place in my heart, but it is even more special now, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Charlie. <3

I love you more and more each and every day
